How Express Entry Works
Express Entry is the fastest way to move to Canada and settle there if you meet the eligibility criteria. Every year, more than 110,000 people gain permanent residency in Canada through various Economic Immigration Programs linked to Express Entry.
Why Express Entry is Important?
This system gives skilled workers from around the world a chance to become permanent residents of Canada. Express Entry is increasingly popular because it helps attract talented workers and is now one of the most highly regarded immigration systems worldwide.
How does the Express Entry selection system function?
The Express Entry system works in two main steps. First, eligible candidates let the Canadian government know they want to become permanent residents. In the second step, the government invites the top-scoring candidates to start the immigration process. Here are the key steps to complete the first stage of the Express Entry process:
- Step 1: Check Your Eligibility – Find out if you qualify to apply through Express Entry.
- Step 2: Get an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) – Complete the required language tests and have your education evaluated.
- Step 3: Create Your Profile – Use the online system from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to submit your profile.
- Step 4: Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) – If selected, you will get an invitation to start the application process.
- Step 5: Apply for Permanent Residence – Submit your application, pay the fees, complete medical exams and police checks, and get an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR).
- Step 6: Submit Biometrics – Follow IRCC’s instructions to provide your fingerprints and photo.
- Step 7: Your permanent residence application may take up to six months to be decided. If it is approved, you will receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and a Permanent Resident visa, allowing you to move to Canada and start your new life there.
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) evaluates and ranks all candidates who show interest and meet the eligibility requirements. Your ranking in the Express Entry process is based on these main factors:
- Core human factors
- Accompanying spouse
- Transferability of skill factors
- Provincial nomination or arranged employment offer
CRS allows candidates to earn a maximum of 1200 points
The candidates with the highest scores get an Invitation to Apply (ITA). After getting the ITA, they must complete their application by submitting all the necessary documents and proof within 90 days.
All applications for Express Entry are put into a pool. Invitations are sent to eligible candidates regularly throughout the year. If a candidate is not selected, they can create a new profile and apply again for the Express Entry process.
Tips for Success in Express Entry
Here are some great tips that will help you for a successful and flawless Express Entry application:
- Provide detailed and accurate information in your profile.
- Try to earn as many points as possible in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
- Keep your documents up-to-date and ready.

Getting advice from an immigration expert can help you better understand how Express Entry works, boost your CRS score, and guide you toward obtaining Permanent Residency. To increase your CRS score, you can aim for a provincial nomination, improve your language abilities, or secure a valid job offer.
Remember to keep your profile updated with any new achievements and double-check that all the information you provide is correct. This will help improve your chances of success in the Express Entry process.
The Function of an Immigration Expert
A skilled and trustworthy immigration consultant can help you improve your chances of success in the Express Entry process. They offer valuable tips to increase your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score and guide you every step of the way.
The consultant can also guide you through submitting your profile and applying for permanent residence, ensuring everything is accurate and complete.
